Sorry for the lack of updates. It’s been a pretty hectic time. So, here’s a very quick run down of everything that is going on.

My running: I reaggrevated my hamstring on a thanksgiving day race. It sucks, but I stopped early enough that I don’t think it will take that long to come back from. Also, this time I’m going very heavy into the rehab/massage work to make sure the thing will heal. Last time I tried to jump back into workouts and training too quickly. So I’m playing it kind of low key and only doing mileage and stuff that doesn’t aggrevate it for a while. That means, no more cross or road races and getting ready for indoor and outdoor track.

My future Running: At the first of the year I’m moving out to the northern virginia area to be coached by Scott Razcko and join Alan Webb, among others, in training. I’m really looking forward to this move and think it is the right thing for me to do. The change of scenery will be welcome (except for the freezing weather!!) and the opportunity to train with others, especially athletes of such high calibur, is something that I can’t pass up. Additionally, I think I will get the individualized training program that will take me to the next level. It will be a big relief handing over the training to someone else and having confidence that they can develop me as an athlete.

My future- non running: I’m also be taking classes towards my masters at GMU. I already met with the head physiologists and was very impressed. He’s done some running related research before and I’ll have the opportunity to do some studies related to running, which I’m really looking forward too.

The HS kids: This was probably the funnest season in coaching athletes I’ve had. The guys responded to the training well and we finally tweaked the peaking a little bit to where the guys ran their best at the right time, and held it there for a long time! They ended up running really well and just barely missed qualifying for the Nike Cross Country Nationals. Pretty impressive when they weren’t even regionally ranked in the pre-season and graduated 3 of their top 7 last year.

The GRE test: I hate tests. This one sucks. So, since I made the decision to move so late, I had about a week to take the GRE test before the deadline. Which made for a lot of fun, since I’d basically forgot most of the stuff that is on the test, since it’s been about 3 years since I have taken a math class. Anyways, it’s over with and I scored well on it. The vocab section is the pits.

Training: I’ll try and finish up my posts on training sometime soon. But as promised earlier, I am very open to sharing my training. I don’t believe there are any secrets, just different ways of accomplishing the same goal. So, if you want a copy of a HS-CC season’s workout, either leave your e-mail on the comments or e-mail it to me at sjm1368@yahoo.com .
